Reasons To Visit South Dakota

Posted: October 05, 2017

Why do you like to travel? Does seeing our nation’s historic sites intrigue you, or are you more of a nightlife and entertainment type of person? What about exploring around beautiful mountains, going on scenic hikes and admiring the wildlife? Well, when you visit the famous Black Hills area of South Dakota, you’ll have the opportunity to do all of things on your trip...and more!

We’re Excited To Have You Here In Deadwood

Cadillac Jack’s Gaming Resort is proud to support the local economy of Deadwood, and we’re also proud to be the Black Hills’ go-to casino resort for exciting blackjack games, slot machines, keno, and more! Learn more about what our Deadwood casino offers by visiting here. Let’s check out some great reasons for you and your family to choose South Dakota as your next vacation destination.

Badlands National Park

The natural wonders of Badlands are truly a spectacle to behold. This national park, located about 60 miles east of Rapid City, consists of nearly a quarter million acres of eroded buttes, pinnacles and spirals. For all of you wildlife gazers out there, you’ll also find plenty of bighorn sheep, prairie dogs, black-footed ferrets and even bison.

Lightning Bugs

In the summer, just after dark, you’ll be able to spot lightning bugs by the thousands in the prairie lands. Also known as fireflies, these little guys sure put on quite the show.

Devil’s Tower National Monument

Okay, you got us - this national monument is technically located in Northeast Wyoming, about 75 miles west of our home in Deadwood. That being said, we highly encourage you to make the short trek out to go gape at this massive natural structure. Towering at 1,267 feet, the name ‘Devil’s Tower’ really starts to make sense.

Bear Country USA

Think of this free-roaming, drive-through (please don’t walk) wildlife park as something comparable to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Southern California. From the comfort (and safety) of your vehicle, you can get up close with a variety of exciting wildlife including timber wolves, bighorn sheep, coyotes, buffalos, mountain lions and of course, black bears and grizzly bears.

Custer State Park

The first and largest state park in South Dakota boasts a number of reasons to hang out and enjoy the natural beauty, but seeing the wildlife is probably the main attraction here. If you’ve never witnessed a herd of 1,500 buffalo, the Buffalo Roundup Arts Festival in September is a great opportunity to do so.

Black Hills National Forest

Even if all of South Dakota’s pristine national monuments, charming small towns (here’s looking at you, Deadwood) and family-friendly attractions aren’t doing it for you, then surely the 1.25 million acre expanse of the Black Hills National Forest will strike your fancy. You’ll find excellent camping, fishing and hiking opportunities in this national forest, but with more than 5,000 miles of navigable roadways, throwing the top down and going for a nice cruise is not a bad way to go.

Mt Rushmore

We couldn’t write a list of reasons to visit South Dakota and not include Mt Rushmore, right? Nestled deep in the Black Hills in the tourist town of Keystone, former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln stand tall at an impressive 5,725 feet above sea level. If you have never seen this iconic memorial in person, you’ve probably heard loved ones talk about their experiences before, so you might as well check it out for yourself.
