Deadwood's Daring Snocross

Posted: January 18, 2017

We see them herding into Deadwood with toy haulers and bulky trailers. As they unload, their engines purr down the ramp and position themselves for a test run. They crank the gas and the loudest BRAAAAAAAPPP echoes throughout the Black Hills. More than 150 of the top professional Snocross racers are in town preparing for Deadwood’s Annual Snocross Showdown.

While the SpringHill Hotel valet helps us unload our bags from the car, my heart races with the sounds of snowmobiles right across the street. My family and I travel to Deadwood every year to catch the Snocross. It’s fun, thrilling, and action packed! We’ve made it a tradition of staying at Cadillac Jack’s because it’s RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from the event!

As our valet helps my family and me into the hotel lobby, we rush as quickly as we can to unpack, grab a quick bite to eat at Brown Rock Sports Café, a toasty hot chocolate from the Starbucks kiosk, then walk to the cross walk to check out what’s happening on the rodeo grounds.

Immediately we see Tucker Hibbert, Ross Martin, and our family favorite, Jennifer Pare! After we get our share of gawking at the professionals and their beautiful snowmobiles, we head back to our hotel room. With a perfect view of the snow track, we glance out the window in anticipation waiting for Friday.

While the children visit the indoor swimming pool, my husband and I head to the casino. With hours of entertainment, welcoming customer service, and wonderful food, our family looks forward to making the trip again next year.

The only bump we hit this year was choosing which hotel to stay at: SpringHill Suites by Marriott or Cadillac Jack’s hotel. We went online and found both hotels offering a Snocross Showdown Room Package, how cool! We booked our room with Cadillac Jack's in minutes; it was that easy. Plus, it's not too late!
